Cooks Creek Community Hall

Client: Cooks Creek Community Club - Building Committee
Prime Consultant: DGH Engineering Ltd.
Location: Cooks Creek, MB

Cooks Creek Community Centre retained DGH when they needed to expand their existing community hall. The proposed expansion was intended to act as a multi-purpose space to be used for sports activities as well as community events and social functions. DGH acted as the Prime Consultant for the project and provided engineering and design services including structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering, energy modelling, and commissioning.

This project provided DGH with the opportunity to work closely with professionals from other sectors to complete this project. Creative Innovations 2009 Inc. was retained by DGH to provide architectural services. DGH worked with a locally appointed Board of Directors to assess needs and develop a project program and concept plan that fit the available site, met the functional need, and respected the budget constraints of the community club. DGH retained the services of local subtrades to complete work, which was completed substantially on time and within budget.

The project resulted in an 8,775-square-foot facility that included a full-size volleyball court, stage, bar, washrooms, and storage space. The building is wood construction with a thickened-edge slab floor and foundation system. Heating was provided by forced air with heat pumps and an HRV. The electrical service was upgraded to allow for the new electrical loads. The Cooks Creek Community Centre is already using the facility to host community events!
